I read a lot. I suggest a great many books to my followers, but I don't simply suggest them to pass the time. I suggest them because I either have applied them, or am currently applying whatever I took from them to my own life, and it's making a difference. Sure, reading is fun. I spend hours on planes reading, but what's the point if I don't learn anything? Today, I'm breaking down my current three favorite books and why you should read them, and what there is to gain from your book wormishness!
I have been recommending this book like crazy to my friends and family and they have been listening! "YOU are a Badass", by Jen Sincero is the ultimate book for badasses present and future tense. Who will benefit from this book? Everyone. Quite frankly because the world can be a giant crapfest. And if you are a positive go-getter, things like social media and unsupportive friends and family can really cramp your style. I, for instance, have been told about a thousand times "you're making a terrible mistake" when I felt in my head and heart I was doing the right thing by taking a risk. Turns out, I was making the right decisions because I'm at a better place today than most of the folks encouraging me not to pursue certain things. I always have larger dreams. I can't help it. They say dream so big that it scares you. My dreams are nightmares then in retrospect, but I'll get there. If you find yourself thinking and feeling like me ever, then I suggest you pick up this book and dig into it. Could completely change your path in life if you don't just read for fun, but read to apply.
Do you have friends? Have a family? Boyfriend or Husband? Want one? This books is for you. Pretty much everyone in the world can benefit from taking a look at how they handle their relationships. My E-friend Dave Willis, is a pastor and the author of this next favorite book of mine "The Seven Laws of Love." It covers everything from friendship love to romantic love. His honest approach will have you laughing and crying, but most importantly learning along with him. This book opened my eyes to so many ways that I could improve relationships in my life, it was mind blowing. The application of everything seemed so simple and achievable, I got to work on little things I could do everyday to be a better wife, sister, daughter, friend and maybe future mother. Who knows? We could all learn a lesson in how to love others better today, when hate seems to be the number one prescription in this world.
Read about a woman that found her calling in the middle of a lackluster and lousily normal life, to become the CEO of her own billion dollar company, from which I buy plenty of clothing these days. "Girl Boss", by Sophia Amoruso is a book for anyone with a brain and the desire to find their passion and pursue it to the moon. Talk about dreaming so big it scares you...this chick went from running an E-bay business in her studio apartment, to cruising around LA in a Porsche bought in cash, and owning 75,000 square feet worth of warehouse space just to house her sales merch. Yeah. Hats off. This book gave me the kick in the ass I needed to see that I don't have to do anything I don't want to do, and I damn well can be who I want to be. This book alone has put new wheels in motion for me. What that all means...well you have to stay tuned. Rome wasn't built over night. But I've begun construction on my personal Rome. You should too. Like, now. Because we aren't getting any younger, and everyday spent wondering is a day wasted. Go out there and get your coins! Pick this book up. Read it (I did in three days time on my hellacious schedule...that means it's good). Marinate on it. Think about what you want. Think about how puny your excuses have been. Become a #girlboss and kick the world in the balls as hard as you can.
That's it for my unconventional book review! As always they are on my IG. All you have to do is sign up for liketoknow.it and like the pic. An email will come to you with links to buy the books online. Trust me, these books are life changing.
