Leeds. One of my favorite cities in the UK. I was lucky enough to spend TWO whole days here during the WWE European tour. It's a whirlwind of a tour, so two days in one spot is about the most you're going to get! I set out walking on a chilly, yet sunny day here in Leeds to explore some scenery and take in the English culture. What I love about this place is its classic look. The buildings are all so beautiful and charming. Whether you are visiting a bookstore, coffee shop or even your hotel, you are getting to experience this amazing old style architecture. It's so lovely to be around.
I didn't realize how artsy of a city it was. My hotel, just a block away from the Leeds Art Gallery, where a wedding just happened to be taking place as I strolled by. Well, the wedding seemed to be over, wedding party photography was taking place I should say. However, I was taken by the cool statues and art pieces that I found out front. The coolest thing I discovered on my walk about town was the Mene Mene art project. It is a collection of statements from the Bible's New Testament that are printed on various objects throughout the city. When I stumbled across the "You are a rock" concrete slab in the ground I just figured it was something clever but when I returned to the hotel to research it further, I realized it was part of a 2005 art project. When I return to Leeds I am hell bent on finding the other 12 (I believe there are 13 in total).
I also found and photographed The Lloyds TSB Horse, unbeknownst to myself. Another cool 39 year old artistic landmark of the city.
Of course, when in England, I had to stop in for a cup of joe somewhere other than Starbucks. And it was quite nippy out so Cafe Nero just down the way from my hotel provided the perfect spot of refuge. As most know, I'm not a big coffee drinker. Chai Lattes here and there but that's about it. I figured in England, go big or go home, right? So I got a white chocolate mocha. It's literally the best I can do guys. I found it to be delightful.
I also found my new camera to be the bees knees. It's so much more fun to take pictures with a professional grade camera rather than an iPhone. Who knew? And...I took every picture seen below myself. Timers are everything. I'm not sure how I survived without one. Selfies are so overrated to me now 😊
Whenever you're in England give Leeds a chance. It's a lovely city full of amazing architecture and artistic surprises at every turn. Maybe you can uncover the entire Mene Mene project. I certainly am hoping to next time!
